Columbia Classics 4K Collection Volume 4
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, rated PG & 14A, 4K + Blu-ray, 14 discs
Wow! If you enjoy good films and quality box sets, you will like this impressive 6-movie (and one TV series) collection from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The films were made from 1940 to 2002 and have been remastered and are on 4K Ultra HD for the first time. The movies on Blu-ray are also included.
This set includes some classics, including Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967) with Sidney Poitier, Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn and Katharine Houghton, Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) with Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep and Sleepless in Seattle (1993) with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner was nominated for 10 Academy Awards winning two Oscars. Kramer vs. Kramer won five Academy Awards, including the Oscar for “Best Picture”. Sleepless in Seattle was nominated for two Oscars.
Also in the collection are His Girl Friday (1940) with Cary Grant, Starman (1984) with Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen and Punch-Drunk Love (2002) with Adam Sandler.
I just revisited Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner as I hadn’t watched it in years. The film is fantastic with excellent acting (Cecil Kellaway and Isabel Sanford also have great performances in the movie) and a wonderful story and writing.
Along with the six movies in both 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, there is an 80-page book about the films. Lots of special features (30+ hours), including the entire TV series of Starman (1986-87) with Robert Hays is also included. This six-movie, 14-disc set is an exceptional collection for film lovers!

Next Goal Wins
Searchlight Pictures, rated PG-13, Blu-ray
Looking for a funny, inspirational sports movie? Our family just watched Next Goal Wins and we all enjoyed it. The movie is based on a true story and follows the American Samoa soccer team as they prepare for their World Cup qualifiers. The team is infamous for their 31-0, record-setting loss to Australia in 2001. It’s now 2014 and the American Samoa soccer team is attempting to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. And their hopes rest on hiring a maverick coach who has run out of coaching options. Can the new coach turn the world’s worst soccer team into winners?
Directed by Taika Waititi, the underdog sports comedy features a wonderful group of characters who provide lots of laughs and inspiration. I like the fact that the movie is based on a true story. Along with the film, this Blu-ray includes the bonus featurette “The Pitch of Life” along with a deleted scene.
The Marvels
Marvel Studios, rated PG, Blu-ray
Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) teams up with Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and super-fan Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) to save the universe in this superhero/action movie. Others in the movie include Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Zenobia Shroff.
While the movie isn’t one of the better Marvel films that I’ve seen, it does have some interesting characters, entertaining scenes and good special effects. The Flerkens (they resemble cats, but have tentacles that extend from their mouth) are a fun part of the movie. This Blu-ray has the film along with bonus features including featurettes and commentary.
